Obstructive sleep apnea is a syndrome that is characterized by recurrent episodes of partial or complete upper airway obstruction during sleep, despite ongoing respiratory efforts.

The symptoms include excessive daytime sleepiness, excessive urination, impaired concentration, and snoring. OSA has been linked to an increased risk of motor vehicle accidents, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, neurocognitive changes, and stroke. Approximately 4% of men and 2% of women have OSA.

The accurate diagnosis of OSA is very important, especially among patients with severe disease. We utilize a portable diagnostic recording devices intended for cardio-respiratory sleep disorder screening. This flexible and portable sleep testing system, incorporates advanced features required to diagnose Sleep Apnea. These tests measure your heart rate, blood oxygen level, airflow and breathing patterns.

The Medica Sleep Center offers you a sleep study service at home. It is very simple to use the device (the size of an iPod). The latter is accompanied by easy-to-follow instructions. A hotline is available to help patients, who would have difficulty with the procedure of this study.

You will be tested in the comfort of your home. You will take the device home. The sleep study is done overnight. The device records your sleep patterns. When returning the device, we will download the recorded data, and we will send your study for evaluation and diagnosis. The results will be sent to your referring doctor. You will make an appointment with him/her to discuss your results.
